This Catasetum Memoria I.H. Shirley is a cross between Ctsm. Portagee Star ‘Brian Lawson Sunrise’ HCC/AOS and Ctsm..lucis ‘Dana’s Bird of Paradise’ AM/AOS.. The Portagee Star parent contributes good Catasetum form. The lucis parent instills a semi-erect spike habit, which extends the flowers well above the foliage. This erect spike habit is not common among Catasetum. You can get this hybrid Catasetum in any color you like, sol long as it is green and white (LOL). Flowers are extremely and pleasantly fragrant. At our first sale of these plants, customers reported following the fragrance down a long path to reach our sales booth. Mature plants produce two to three inflorescences of up to ten 3 in. flowers from each new growth pseudobulb, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes in succession. Plants bloom in late summer through early fall. Plants are just emerging from their dormant season as of this posting, March 10.

Three-inch pots of this hybrid are back bulb divisions with at least one live eye for new growth. Four-inch pots are established blooming size plants. Five-inch pots are larger established plants capable of producing multiple inflorescences simultaneously.
